A Hometown Kid Brought the Cup Home
A kid who learned to skate through the Leduc Minor Hockey Association grew up to win hockey's greatest trophy — and on Tuesday, Aug 11, he brought it back to where it started.
Jordan Martinook, alternate captain of the Carolina Hurricanes, filled the LRC Fieldhouse with a lineup that started forming before the doors even opened. Neighbours, minor hockey kids, people who probably coached him or sat next to his parents in the stands twenty years ago — all of them got their turn with the Cup. That's the part of this story that matters most: hockey's biggest trophy sat, for one morning, in the same building where Martinook's own hockey story began.
A hometown kid returned with hockey's greatest trophy, and the community showed up to celebrate.
